Statement Of Intent
My aim is to work on component 2 by choosing the theme of “Concealment”. I will spend the first month planning and experimenting then manipulating my theme, and by the end of the exam, I will present my final outcomes so they are visibly noticeable.
Firstly, I need to research who my photographers are and what pictures I could potentially delve into and elaborate on. I will present these pictures in a mood board and convey my ideas in an image analysis. I plan on doing an in depth analysis on one of the photographers pictures in order to help me understand what I need to do when taking my photos and manipulating them. When I am ready to start taking photos, I will make a shoot plan so I have something to look back at and then proceed to take my photos.
This will lead me on to showing my progress. Each shoot I take will be presented clearly followed by manipulation and then linking back to the photographer and their picture. I will do 2 more shoots which will highlight the development. Whilst manipulation, I will be able to look over my ideas and see what I could change in photo shop by amplifying the colour and seeing what I could put into black and white or what should remain the same or be removed for a specific effect. Ultimately, when manipulating manually, I will be able to play around with the placement as well as adding an element of 3D to it.
Idea for concealment are; stitching, cutting, scratching and burning. For stitching, I would decide to cover a part of the object up or to make it look like the object has actually been stitched. Scratching could give a “Old” feeling to the picture, and I might choose to change it into black and white before printing. The burning could impact the picture a lot by giving a lot of messages, maybe burning a face or person. Cutting could be used for overlaying the pictures together to form illusions and a more perplexing outcome.
Doing different types of concealment will be me experimenting and maybe trying to incorporate a couple of the concealment ideas together into one. I will take a shot with objects and try positioning them in different ways and also attempting a couple of shoots with people.
The timeline has been planned out sufficiently in order to have enough prep time before the exam. The first 3 weeks are getting the research finished, and the next 2 weeks are taking the first set of photos and manipulating them. By half term, there will be a session to upgrade my photos by getting a professional photographer in to give me a different perspective as well as continuing to manipulate. By the second month, the second set of photos are to be taken and also manipulated. By the 13th week, outcomes should be finalised and reflected on. The preparation will end with an evaluation and then the exam will proceed.

Mood board
The first row of images are from Jose Romussi. They are the pictures that have been embroidered. The pictures have a theme of "Old" but once printed out and threaded, you see that it gives a new look. Attracting me to this type of concealment, was the position and ombre effect of the thread. It makes the pictures look 3D. What I really appreciate about the first image is how it genuinely looks like the dress is moving whilst the woman is moving, the different shades of green definitely add to this feeling because they almost mimic the lighting. The second image looked to me that it was more playing around with the colour but I really admired the different styles of what the thread could be used for. The third one really meshes together the colour, positioning, thread and the 3D element by playing with the dress colour and the movement. The last one showed to me how I can play around with the thread in various colours other than a specific colour but to also alternating the direction slightly.
The second row of images were produced by Pablo Thecuardo. His concealment is very different compared to Jose Romussis' in terms of overlapping images and deleting some elements out in order to get an outline. The first image highlighted the outline to me as well as the positioning of the flower and so if I decided to use a object within my photo shoot, I could have it so that the object came of from several directions. The second image showed to me the overlapping of the same image, and different shoots of the same girl all intertwined with each other. The third image exhibited the outline very prominently. I loved the way the arms were coming out the outline as well - it brought back some realism to the mage. I also loved the colour used as well. Finally, the last image was probably the most vague one there but it was something that I thought looked appealing because of the tear in the middle.
The third row were images of burning, there wasn't really any specific artist that specialised within the burning of the concealment however, the pictures I came across had been burnt with a matchstick in a very specific place. In that place, there was something else within that burn - I think a good idea could be to show thoughts of someone or another image of the same person. Ultimately, going into photo shop means that I can amplify the golden orange to make the burns more animated/prominent. The pictures combine a little bit of cutting concealment as well, meaning that I'll be able to intertwine with the other concealment. I think it will bring a very drastic feeling with the burning and manipulation.
